LEARN THE SONGS

Every song we sing, with the words, what they mean, how to actually pronounce them, and the recording to sing along to — with each syllable lighting up as it is sung. Built for the roda, not for a screen.

WHY THIS EXISTS

Where this comes from

Every song here was made by a capoeirista who understood the art and put real knowledge, real feeling, into it — not on paper, but in a song. That knowledge is out there, but reaching all of it has always meant meeting a hundred masters, one song at a time.

CANTO gathers what those people made and makes it reachable. We use AI to do that — to translate, to interpret, to bring it together — never to invent. The knowledge belongs to the capoeiristas who made the songs. This app only carries it to you.

We don't promise every word is perfect. Nobody could, about songs passed hand to hand for generations. What we promise is that a person checks every one, always, before it reaches you — and that we do this better than anywhere else you'll find it.

The player — every song, synced

Sing along, word by word

The line being sung towers over the screen in its own colour, and every word lights up the moment the voice reaches it. Slow it down, loop it, sing it until it sits in your chest.

Puxador — the leader

When the leader calls, the line turns azure. Listen — this part is theirs.

Coro — everyone answers

When the roda answers, the line turns yellow. That part is yours, from day one.

Say it — how it really sounds

Under every line, the pronunciation the way a Brazilian would say it: kah-po-EY-rah mee ven-SEH-oo.

How to use the songbook

Mestre Mindinho walks through the app — how to find a song, how to sing the coro with it, and how to track what you know.

The Path — seven steps, one voice

From your first roda to leading one

Nobody starts by pulling a ladainha. You start by answering — everyone does. The Path climbs the way a capoeirista actually grows.

Português — the language of the roda

The Portuguese comes with the songs

You do not study grammar here. You sing, and the language follows — the say-it line under every lyric, the everyday words hiding inside the old verses, and short partner drills to run in class, out loud, the way the roda will ask for them.

Everyday words

abrir, to open · caminho, the way — the same words you will use to ask directions in Salvador.

Partner drills

Call-and-answer exercises made for two students in class — one calls, one answers, then switch.

Practice — a person answers, not a machine

Sing it to your instructor

Press record and sing over the berimbau backtrack. Your recording goes to your instructor, and what comes back is their voice, in the app — a teacher who knows you, hearing you. No machine ever judges your singing here, and nothing is scored. It is just you, the berimbau, and your instructor listening.

The makers — sung by · written by

Every song carries its maker's name

A song is not content; somebody made it. So every player screen carries a liner note — who sings this recording, and who wrote the song — set inside the artwork, like the sleeve of a record. Composers and mestres whose work lives here are named and honored. And when no one knows who wrote an old song, it is kept with respect: plenty of the old ones carry no name — they are simply traditional.
